Amazon Reveals Details Of New Fire Smartphone

Amazon has released details of its new smartphone Fire which it hopes can eat up market share from rivals Samsung, Apple and Nokia.

 Users can now auto- scroll through menus and can read a long web page or book without having to touch the screen.

Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s CEO said: “The Firefly button lets you identify printed web and email addresses, phone numbers, QR and bar codes, artwork, and over 100 million items, including songs, movies, TV shows, and products.”

Tech magazine Wired said: “Bulking up the Amazon Appstore is a big reason why this phone exists; even though its out-of-box features look incredible, its success may hinge on the creativity of third-party developers.

“Amazon is certainly hoping that the unique opportunities presented by its new hardware will inspire developers.”

 A 32GB will retail for $199 with a two-year contract while a 64GB version will cost $299 for the same contract length.
